We live not in order to provide food, shelter and clothing for the body. We provide food, shelter and clothing for the body in order to live. Material things are only the means to a spiritual end. When they become the end, the sole end, as they usually are, life loses content and discontent afflicts mankind.

Hi Al,
I like your quotes and agree except for the Goldman one. I believe that no matter how well-meaning a society might be, the quirks and aberrations of human nature and people's penchant for indolence and altered states of consciousness while at the same time demanding the comforts everyone else has preclude everyone living within globally acceptable codes of behaviour--thus you get criminality, which is usually either provoked by greed or by sociopathic or psychopatic individuals, of which there seems to be no end.
